1969 Alfa Romeo Spider

The first of the Alfa Romeo spiders were released in 1966 at the 36th Geneva Motor Show and were powered by a 92 BHP 1576cc twin-cam engine. The Alfa Romeo Duetto is one of the most celebrated automotive designs of the 20th century. it is universally known by the name “Duetto”, the result of a public contest that Alfa Romeo abandoned a year later due to a trademark dispute with a chocolate company. The Duetto holds a special place as the last project personally overseen by Battista "Pinin" Farina with its most defining feature being the rounded, tapering rear, nicknamed "Osso di Seppia" (Cuttlefish Bone) or "Boat-tail."

The Duetto achieved global immortality in the 1967 film The Graduate. Watching Dustin Hoffman’s character, Ben Braddock, drive a red Duetto across the Bay Bridge to the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel cemented the car as the thinking person’s "cool" convertible

Nearly identical to the earlier 1600 “Duetto” Spider, the 1750 Spider Veloce was introduced in 1968. Powered by a larger version of Alfa’s twin-cam inline four-cylinder displacing 1,779-cubic-centimeters, the 1750 Spider Veloce combined Pininfarina’s iconic “round-tail” design with the improved mechanicals of the later series Spiders. The 1750 engine is regarded as Alfa’s most charismatic engine. Rev-happy like the smaller motors but with more mid-range torque. It was one of the early cars to feature four-wheel disc brakes and a five-speed manual transmission as standard, making it feel remarkably modern and drivable

While the Alfa Spider stayed in production for nearly 30 years (until 1994), the Roundback is the rarest and most valuable. Collectors love it because it represents the original vision of Pininfarina. Later models added rubber spoilers, heavy bumpers, and fuel injection, but the Roundback remains the most pure
