The company started as Kaishinsha Motorcar Co. and later renamed to DAT Motorcar Co. in 1925. The company built trucks and passenger cars and later made vehicles for the military. The company later began producing a line of 495cc cars; these cars were called ‘Datsun’ which literally means ‘son of dat’ and the name was changed to Datsun 2 years later. The company was later taken over by Nissan and the Datsun brand was phased out 1986.
