The updated Renault Duster has touched down in South Africa. Here’s a look at what’s changed, along with pricing and specifications.
This updated Renault Duster is sourced from Renault’s factory in Chennai, India which means the Romanian Euro-spec Duster era has come to an end. This is the same factory which assembles the Nissan Tekton, the Duster’s twin.
It is assembled on the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-B platform and will be available in a five-model line up with a choice of two engines and two transmissions. Sadly there’s no sign of a 4×4 configuration or a diesel engine.
The engine range kicks off with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor which makes 74 kW and 160 Nm. This is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Next up is a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 116 kW and 260 Nm, and that can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, badged as EDC.
Customers have the choice of five colours; Moonlight Silver, Mountain Jade Green, Pearl White, Sunset Red, River Blue. In terms of trim, there are four levels. Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay is standard as are 6 airbags, stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure sensors and a rearview camera.
Higher trim levels get a large digital driver display, wireless smartphone charger, upgrade audio, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and an electric tailgate. They also gain ADAS functions in the form of adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition, lane-keep assist, active emergency braking, 360-degree camera and so on.
Interestingly, Renault is claiming two boot capacity figures; 518 litres up to the parcel shelf and 700 litres up to the roof. While there may not be a 4×4 derivative, the Duster has a ground clearance of 212 mm, approach angle of 26.9 degrees and a departure angle of 34.7 degrees.
