Toyota RAV4 (2026) Price & Specs

Pricing scoop! The new Toyota RAV4 will soon launch in SA, including in GR-Sport guise. We’ve uncovered pricing ahead of this 6th-gen model’s official introduction…

  • New range to comprise 5 variants
  • Petrol, HEV and PHEV powertrains
  • GR-Sport grade added to portfolio

Holding out for the new Toyota RAV4? Well, the wait is almost over, with the 6th-generation crossover set to launch in South Africa very soon, including in eye-catching GR-Sport trim. And Cars.co.za has managed to uncover pricing a little early.

As a reminder, the XA60-series RAV4 was revealed in May 2025, based on an updated version of its predecessor’s TNGA-K platform. Though its sheet-metal is clearly new, the latest RAV4 has very similar dimensions to those of the outgoing model (with its 2 690 mm wheelbase carrying over).

New RAV4 range to include 3 powertrain options

The SA-spec VX derivative should look something like this.

So, what will it cost in Mzansi? Well, according to our information, the new RAV4 line-up will eventually comprise 5 derivatives – with 3 powertrain options on offer (though one seemingly won’t be available at launch). Still, it’s our understanding the new range will start with the RAV4 2.5 GX HEV E-Four CVT, priced from R770 500.

This all-wheel-drive derivative’s traditional-hybrid powertrain combines a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol motor with a small battery pack and an electric motor. From what we can glean, the petrol engine now offers 137 kW (up from 131 kW) and 221 Nm, while peak system power stands at 176 kW (up from 163 kW). Expect a claimed fuel-economy figure of around 4.5 L/100 km.

The local RAV4 range will eventually include a trio of powertrain options.

The Japanese automaker’s local division will also offer a purely petrol-powered variant in the form of the RAV4 2.0 VX CVT. Priced from R799 900, we suspect this front-wheel-drive derivative’s naturally aspirated 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol mill will carry over largely unchanged from the outgoing model, again offering 127 kW and 203 Nm via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Meanwhile, the RAV4 2.5 VX HEV E-Four CVT will be priced from R927 800, employing precisely the same self-charging hybrid arrangement as the GX above. This powertrain will also be used by the likewise all-paw RAV4 2.5 GR-S HEV E-Four CVT, with this new GR-Sport iteration expected to be priced from R941 800.

Note the new 12.9-inch touchscreen, which will feature in all variants bar the base GX.

Finally, the RAV4 2.5 PHEV E-Four CVT will top the portfolio, with a starting price of R1 043 900 – though we believe it won’t be available right from launch. Upgrading to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain, this flagship variant combines a 139 kW/228 Nm petrol engine with a battery pack (likely a 22.7 kWh item) and an electric motor on each axle. From what we can tell, total system power stands at 242 kW.

A closer look at the new RAV4’s standard kit

The new RAV4’s 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

So, what can we expect in terms of standard specification? Well, Toyota SA Motors confirmed at its State of the Motoring Industry (SOMI) 2026 event in February that all derivatives bar the base GX will feature the latest Toyota Safety Sense 4 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS).

We also have it on good authority that the entry-level GX variant will come with a 10.5-inch infotainment screen (in addition to a 12.3-inch instrument cluster), while all other derivatives will upgrade to a new 12.9-inch touchscreen. The GX variant will feature fabric upholstery and ride on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/60 R18 tyres.

The GR-S will be offered in HEV form in SA.

Meanwhile, we believe the VX grade will include features like adaptive LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, leather upholstery, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, a 360-degree camera system and wireless smartphone charging. The VX HEV and the flagship PHEV will come with a tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof, while the 2.0 VX and GR-S HEV will seemingly each instead feature a moonroof.

Of course, the GR-S derivative will boast more aggressive exterior styling (including front and rear spoilers as well as red brake callipers) along with a wider track plus “enhanced suspension tuning and body rigidity”. It will furthermore ride on black 20-inch alloys (shod with 235/50 R20 rubber) and include the requisite smattering of “GR” badges, inside and out.
