Although the new Lepas L6 – the Chery Group sub-brand’s 2nd model after the L4 that arrived in March 2026 – has yet to officially launch in South Africa, we now have a strong idea of this fresh-faced Chinese crossover’s starting price in our market.
As a reminder, pre-orders opened back in June 2026, with Lepas SA saying deliveries were “scheduled to begin in late July 2026”. While official pricing has yet to be added to the brand’s local website (despite the fact we’re already in August), Cars.co.za‘s information suggests the L6’s starting price will be R479 900.
The local range is set to comprise 2 derivatives: the Lepas L6 1.5T Javan 6DCT and the Lepas L6 1.5T Pantera 6DCT. Logic would thus suggest the Javan will be priced at R479 900, though the company earlier said the first 200 local customers to place an order would receive a R10 000 discount – taking the “pre-order” price to R469 900.
Interestingly, we’ve seen several dealerships advertising the flagship Pantera derivative for the sum of R499 900. If that indeed ends up being the range-topping variant’s retail price, the 2 grades would thus be separated by some R20 000.
Both derivatives employ the Chery Group’s turbocharged 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which here delivers 108 kW and 225 Nm (precisely the same peak power as it does in the closely related Chery Tiggo 7 but some 15 Nm more) to the front axle via a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The listed fuel consumption is 7.2 L/100 km.

From what we understand, the Pantera specification gains a handful of extra features compared to the Javan grade, including various advanced driver-assistance system functions (from lane-departure warning and lane-change assist to intelligent headlight control and adaptive cruise control).
The Pantera derivative furthermore boasts an additional airbag (taking its total to 7), 256-colour ambient cabin lighting, a Sony sound system (with 8 rather than the Javan’s 6 speakers), driver’s-seat lumbar adjustment and heating-and-ventilation functions for the front pews.
Both variants come standard with items like a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a 540-degree camera system, wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic sunroof, faux-leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, a powered tailgate, 19-inch alloy wheels and a trio of driving modes.
Measuring 4 554 mm from front to back, the L6 is just a single millimetre longer than the Tiggo 7 (which, for the record, currently kicks off at R429 900), though it interestingly features a 30 mm lengthier wheelbase at 2 700 mm. Lepas claims a ground clearance of 158 mm and a luggage capacity of 435 litres, with an additional 71 litres of space available in a “lower storage compartment”.
From what we can tell, the newcomer will be offered in a choice of 5 exterior paint colours. We expect the new Lepas L6 to ship standard with a 5-year/75 000 km warranty, a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty (for the first owner) and a 5-year/75 000 km service plan.
