The Lepas L6 EV is locked in for a South African market launch. Here’s what we know so far about this battery-electric family SUV.
The Lepas L6 EV will be hitting South African showrooms before the end of the year, offering customers an electrified derivative of the newly launched L6 family SUV.
Measuring 4 570 mm long, 1 852 mm wide, 1 683 mm tall and with a wheelbase of 2 700 mm, the Lepas L6 EV should offer adequate space. We understand the Lepas L6 EV will be offered with a 65 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, giving it a claimed range of up to 510 km based on the NEDC cycle. This claim comes from Lepas Thailand, while Lepas Australia says 440 km.
The powertrain is a single electric motor driving the front wheels. It makes 160 kW and 275 Nm, and Lepas claims a 0-100 kph time of 7.9 seconds. The battery supports 120 kW DC charging, and Lepas reckons a 30-80% top up can be completed in 20 minutes. For those requiring the benefit of vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power supply, the L6 EV provides 3.3 kW.
Final specification and features have yet to be confirmed, but based on the Australian and Thailand markets, the vehicle gets a portrait-orientated infotainment screen, imitation leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, 18-speaker audio system from Sony, wireless charging, ambient lighting, ventilated seats as well as ADAS features in the form of adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and forward collision warning.
What is the price of the Lepas L6 EV in SA?
At the time of writing, no pricing for this vehicle is available, but based on its specifications and electric powertrain, we estimate the Lepas L6 EV will retail between R500 000 and R600 000.
