  • New B10 REEV kicks off at just under R500 000
  • Rear-mounted electric motor generates 158 kW

The Leapmotor B10 REEV is poised to hit the market in South Africa soon, with the Stellantis-backed Chinese brand having now officially opened orders for its latest range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) crossover.

As a reminder, the Leapmotor brand entered Mzansi in October 2025 with the launch of the C10 REEV. Stellantis owns a now-19% stake in the Hangzhou-based firm, as well as a 51% majority in “Leapmotor International”, an Amsterdam-headquartered joint venture between the 2 companies that takes care of the brand outside of China.

According to Stellantis SA, the Jinhua-built B10 line-up will comprise a pair of derivatives at launch, each featuring a grade familiar from the C10 portfolio (Style and Design). The B10 REEV Style is priced from R499 900, while the B10 REEV Design starts at R549 900.

In each case, the REEV system includes a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine, a rear-mounted electric motor, a single-speed transmission and an 18.8 kWh (seemingly gross rather than net) lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

Only the electric motor – which offers peak outputs of 158 kW and 240 Nm – powers the rear wheels directly, with the Atkinson-cycle petrol engine instead acting solely as a generator (charging the battery pack when required). The company lists a 0-100 kph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 kph.

Stellantis SA says the rear-wheel-drive B10 REEV’s battery pack offers “up to 86 km of pure electric range”. Thanks to the range-extender petrol mill and its 50-litre fuel tank, the crossover’s total claimed range comes in at “up to 900 km“.

The Leapmotor B10 REEV measures 4 515 mm from front to back, making it a considerable 224 mm shorter than the C10 REEV and thus slightly larger than something like the Jaecoo J7 (4 500 mm). The 5-seater crossover has a listed luggage capacity of 330 litres, a figure that increases to 1 600 litres with the rear bench folded down.

The Style grade includes items like a panoramic sunroof, fabric seats, faux-leather trim for the steering wheel, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera system, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, rear parking sensors, automatic headlamps, 7 airbags and a raft of advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) features.

Meanwhile, for an additional R50 000, the Design specification upgrades to “Eco” leather upholstery, powered (plus heated-and-ventilated) front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 2nd-row centre armrest, electrically folding side mirrors, a powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, a 64-colour ambient lighting system and 12 speakers (rather than 6) for the audio system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How much does the new Leapmotor B10 REEV cost in South Africa?

A: The Leapmotor B10 REEV line-up starts at R499 900 for the entry-level Style derivative, while the higher-spec Design variant is priced at R549 900.

Q: How does the Leapmotor B10 range-extender (REEV) system work and what is its range?

A: The rear wheels are driven strictly by a 158 kW/240 Nm electric motor powered by an 18.8 kWh battery, providing up to 86 km of pure electric driving. The 1.5-litre petrol engine does not drive the wheels directly; instead, it acts exclusively as an onboard generator to charge the battery using a 50-litre fuel tank, enabling a total combined range of up to 900 km.

Q: What key specification differences, warranty coverage and dimensions define the B10 REEV range?

A: Measuring 4 515 mm long with a 330-litre boot, both models feature a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof and 7 airbags. The Design grade adds eco-leather trim, heated/ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker audio system, and a powered tailgate. Pricing includes a 5-year/100 000 km warranty and service plan, alongside an 8-year/150 000 km battery warranty.
