2024 Toyota GR 86

Before everyone grabs the pitchforks: yes, I know exactly what you're thinking. "Who sells a GR86 with only 9,900 km? Surely there's something wrong with it?" Nope. Nothing sinister here. The previous owner simply upgraded to our Porsche Cayman GTS and traded in his nearly-new GR86. To be fair... I completely understand that upgrade.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's talk about the car itself.

I genuinely think that if you're shopping for a brand-new performance car and your goal is maximum smiles per Rand, this is exactly where your money should be going. I was honestly surprised when I took it out for a proper drive. On paper the numbers don't scream supercar, but the second you get behind the wheel, none of that matters anymore. This thing is properly quick. That naturally aspirated Subaru-built Boxer motor loves to rev, the short-throw manual gearbox is unbelievably satisfying, and being rear-wheel drive means every corner suddenly becomes something to look forward to. It has that old-school sports car character that's becoming harder and harder to find.

What impressed me even more was how confidence-inspiring it is. You'd expect something this low and this sporty to constantly have you worrying about every bump in the road, but Toyota absolutely nailed the balance. It feels planted, predictable and incredibly forgiving, while still giving you enough feedback to make you feel completely connected to the car. The chassis is phenomenal, and the traction and stability systems deserve a standing ovation. I wasn't trying to set lap records—I was simply driving it properly—and at no point did I ever feel like it wanted to bite me. Instead, it just begged for one more corner.

Then you look at the numbers again. You're basically buying a brand-new GR86 with active factory warranty, active service plan, ridiculously low mileage and saving yourself a serious amount of money in the process. I honestly don't know what else to tell you. If driving is something you genuinely enjoy, there simply isn't much on the market today that delivers this much fun for the money.
