Description
The Honda S2000 was first presented as the SSM concept car at Tokyo motor show in 1995. It went into production in 1999 to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. Naming the car was kept simple – S stands for “sports” and 2000 refers to the displacement of 2000 cc. This followed a line of Honda roadsters from the 60’s. Production of the S2000 ended in 2009
The S2000 engine is famous for its mid-front mounted engine that could rev to a staggering 9000 rpm. Up until 2010, the F20 engine found in the S2000 boasted the highest output per litre of any naturally aspirated production engine available. In 2004 some significant changes were made to the S2000. 17-inch wheels, retuned suspension and updated dampening for the shock absorbers resulted in more predictable handling and better stability. The subframe was revised for better rigidity and the gearbox synchros were also changed from brass to carbon fibre to strengthen the gearbox. While the AP2 built for the US market was “upgraded” to a 2.2 L engine, the Japanese spec cars kept the 2.0L engine, but power was up to 184kW from 2004 onwards.
This specific car is a 2008 Honda S2000 AP2. It has covered 74 000 km from new and has a full-service history. Finished in a rare colour combination of Deep Burgundy Metallic over a brown leather interior, the car presents beautifully.
A true sports car. No nonsense and unapologetically simple. The magic recipe: A high revving naturally aspirated engine coupled to a manual gearbox delivering power to the rear wheels. As a driver you cannot ask for anything more!
