Description
A true icon of the 4×4 world.
This Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 LX comes from the final two years of 40 Series production, when Toyota introduced the 5-speed H55F gearbox. The LX specification also brought a number of notable additions, including three wiper blades, striped seats, chrome wheels and a larger radiator.
Imported from Victoria, Australia to South Africa in July 2009, this FJ40 arrived alongside two others — none of which were roadworthy at the time. After spending around nine months bringing this example up to roadworthy condition and completing the registration process, its owner embarked on a far more ambitious project: a true nut-and-bolt restoration, carried out largely himself.
Having previously restored both an FJ45 and a BJ40, and with a background in fitting and turning and structural engineering, the owner had the experience and understanding to take on the FJ40 properly, giving every aspect of the restoration the attention it deserved.
It presents beautifully with 4554km indicated on the clock. This is no ordinary Land Cruiser, this is a real head turner. An FJ40 LX from the final chapter of 40 Series production, with an interesting Australian history and a restoration story to match.
