Description
Today on offer is a stunning 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280S Automatic (W108), finished in an elegant off-white beige. Widely regarded as one of Mercedes-Benz's most elegant and enduring saloon designs, the W108 combines timeless styling with exceptional engineering.
Like many of the vehicles we offer, this is an honest, solid example that has survived remarkably well and presents as a rust-free car. Purchased by its current owner in 2020, a considerable amount of money was subsequently invested into returning the car to a reliable and enjoyable driver. Numerous new parts were fitted, including new door and boot rubbers, and the vehicle was thoroughly serviced and mechanically sorted, allowing it to be enjoyed with confidence.
Interestingly, the windows were tinted by a previous owner who suffered from skin cancer. While this may not appeal to everyone's taste, the tinting can be removed relatively easily should the next owner prefer the original appearance.
Despite the work carried out, the car has seen very little use in recent years, covering an estimated 500 kilometres since being acquired by its current owner. As a result, it remains a fresh and highly usable classic. While a fair amount has been spent bringing the vehicle back to a dependable standard, there are still a few cosmetic and detail items that a new custodian may wish to address to elevate the car even further.
One of the charming aspects of this example is that the seats and roof lining remain the original items fitted in 1971. The vehicle has been repainted at some point during its life; however, this was carried out many years ago and has stood the test of time well. The majority of the chrome remains in excellent condition, particularly considering it is largely original.
On the road, the 280S delivers exactly the sort of driving experience these cars are renowned for. It drives exceptionally well, with a smooth, comfortable ride and responsive performance. The W108 is widely regarded as one of Mercedes-Benz's finest saloon cars, combining timeless styling, engineering integrity, and effortless cruising ability.
Please note that this is not a concours vehicle, nor is it being represented as one. Rather, it is a very honest, highly usable classic Mercedes-Benz that can be driven, enjoyed, and improved over time if desired. It is the sort of car that you can confidently take to events, enjoy on weekend drives, or simply admire in your garage.
For someone looking for a genuine W108 that has already benefited from substantial expenditure and attention, this represents an excellent opportunity.
Please note that although first registered on 1 January 1971, the vehicle is in fact a 1970 model year car.
