Description
For sale is my Honda S800 Roadster Mk1 — an exceptionally rare vehicle, not only within South Africa, but globally as well. Estimated surviving production numbers are believed to sit at approximately 206 Mk1 cars and 202 Mk2 cars worldwide, making these incredibly scarce collector vehicles today. From my own research, I am only aware of four Honda S800 Roadsters currently in South Africa.
Values of these early Honda sports cars have increased steadily over the last few years, with overseas market values reportedly ranging between approximately R900,000 and R1.4 million depending on condition, originality, and provenance. As appreciation for early Japanese collector cars continues to grow internationally, the S800 is increasingly recognised as one of the most important and desirable early Japanese sports cars ever produced. Importantly, importing one into South Africa today would cost considerably more than the vehicle’s purchase price once shipping, import duties, VAT, and related costs are taken into account.
The S800’s high-revving four-cylinder engine, lightweight construction, excellent weight distribution, and low centre of gravity made these cars exceptionally engaging to drive and far more advanced than many of their contemporaries.
This particular vehicle presents honestly and well overall, with no visible rust or obvious body issues. The car is largely complete, barring its cylinder head, carbs and gearbox, which were unfortunately stolen and later sold as scrap metal. Importantly, all missing components are known and sourceable items through international Honda contacts and can be imported into South Africa if required.
The vehicle is fitted with a brand-new soft top and, once the missing components are sourced, it would not take much to return the car to running condition. The vehicle is licensed and registered.
The only reason I would even consider selling this car is due to unforeseen personal circumstances, so please, serious buyers only and no time wasters.
