We’ve identified South Africa’s 10 most popular Chinese vehicles for February 2026, with a trio of models from a certain Chery sub-brand performing particularly well…
- Tiggo 4 still SA’s favourite Chinese car
- Jetour SA grabs 3 places in the top 10
- Pair of GWM bakkies make the list, too
Chinese automotive brands continue to make considerable inroads into South Africa’s new-vehicle market. But which models are leading the sales charge? Well, we’ve sorted through February 2026‘s registration figures to identify the 10 Chinese vehicles that proved most popular with local new-vehicle buyers last month.
Keep in mind we’ve included both the passenger-vehicle and the light-commercial vehicle (LCV) segments in this exercise, so the list below features a couple of bakkies (in addition to a raft of crossovers). Furthermore, note some Chinese brands operating in South Africa – including the likes of BYD, GAC and LDV – currently don’t report sales figures to Naamsa, so aren’t included here.
Interestingly, every single model in the top 10 comes from either the Chery Group or GWM. For the record, GWM SA (including Haval) ranked 6th on the list of SA’s best-selling automakers in February 2026 with 2 614 units, while Chery SA finished in 8th place on 2 312 units. Still, the latter figure excludes sub-brands Jetour and Omoda & Jaecoo, which contributed 1 673 units and 1 297 units, respectively.
Tiggo 4 remains SA’s favourite Chinese car
Just as it did across the whole of 2025, the Chery Tiggo 4 (including Cross) was comfortably Mzansi’s top-selling Chinese vehicle in February 2026, with 1 809 units sold. While Tiggo 4 sales grew 11.3% month on month, GWM’s Haval Jolion – which placed 2nd – suffered a 5.5% month-on-month decline in registrations to end on 1 108 units.
The Omoda C5 completed the Chinese-car podium in February with 824 units, down 9.2% compared to its January performance. The new Jetour T2 placed 4th on the list with 619 units, some 6.9% down on its record performance in 2026’s opening month. The GWM P-Series (559 units; up 21.3% month on month) completed the top 5, retaining the title of SA’s favourite Chinese bakkie in the process.
Jetour grabs 2 more spots in the top 10
The Jetour T1 – which launched alongside its T2 sibling in November 2025 – grabbed 6th place by reaching a new sales high of 458 units (up 6.3% month on month), while the Jetour Dashing took 7th on 396 units (up 39.9% month on month). For the record, Jetour SA sold a record 1 673 units last month, seeing it rank 11th on the overall list of Mzansi’s best-selling automakers and 7th in the passenger-vehicle space.
The Haval H6 (390 units; down 4.4% month on month) had to settle for 8th position, though it was just 6 units behind the Dashing. That saw the Chery Tiggo 7 finish down in 9th, with local registrations declining 9.5% month on month to 361 units in February 2026.
Finally, the GWM Steed closed out the table on 263 units – up 52.9% compared to January – despite this workhorse bakkie recently being discontinued in SA. More than 90% of Steed sales last month were registered via the rental channel, so we suspect local dealer stock has now almost run dry.
