The LDV T60 Utility Single Cab has officially touched down in South Africa, with this Chinese-built newcomer positioned as one of the local market’s most affordable single-cab bakkies.

Yes, the SAIC-owned automaker’s local division has confirmed the T60 Utility 2.0TD Single Cab 4×2 6MT starts R299 900, seeing it tie (with the JAC T6 2.0CTI Comfort 4×2 6MT and JMC Vigus Pro 2.4TD 4×2 5MT) for the title of SA’s 3rd most-affordable traditional single-cab bakkie.

Though LDV South Africa has confirmed a 4×4 version will be available too, pricing for this derivative has yet to be added to its website. In either case, however, a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine delivers peak outputs of 120 kW and 410 Nm via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The company lists a payload capacity of “up to 1 170 kg” (presumably the figure for the 4×2 derivative), along with a braked towing capacity of 3 000 kg. The single cab measures 5 395 mm long, with a wheelbase of 3 155 mm, and seemingly rides on steel wheels as standard.

According to LDV, dual airbags and ABS with EBD ship standard, along with a rear foglamp, a Bluetooth-enabled audio system, air conditioning and a trio of driving modes. The automaker says the T60 Utility Single Cab features a 73-litre fuel tank, while its claimed “highway” consumption is 7.5 L/100 km and urban consumption 8.7 L/100 km.
