The 2025 BMW 4 Series has been given a facelift, with an updated look, more interior tech and the introduction of hybrid engines. Here’s a first look.
The 2025 BMW 4 Series range comprises a coupe, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe, but today’s release focuses on the first two models.
Visually, that polarising grille is retained, but that’s okay as we think everyone has become used to it. There are new lights, with new Laserlight tail lamps. First seen on the M range, these rear lights look epic.
Other changes to both the coupe and the convertible include new wheel designs and more colours added to the palette, like the Vegas Red metallic you see here. Lower spec models get matte chrome access on the front, while the performance-focused M440i gets a gloss black grille with subtle M badging.
Climb inside and you’ll notice a redesigned steering wheel with shift paddles and illuminated switchgear. The curved display infotainment screen has been upgraded to iDrive 8.5 and the ambient lighting system has been tweaked.
Under the bonnet, the engines get new mild hybrid technology and BMW says there’s been a “edesign of the intake ports and combustion chambers and innovations in the areas of camshaft control, injection, ignition system, and exhaust gas routing.” Still, outputs remain the same.
The 430i’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine makes 190 kW and 400 Nm, with power driving the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic. The M440i’s hybrid system makes 8 kW and 200 Nm for short bursts and combined with the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 petrol engine, a combined output of 288 kW and 539 Nm is on offer, which is an interesting claim from BMW. Currently, BMW SA says the pre-facelift M440i offers up 285 kW and 500 Nm. Expect a 0-100 kph sprint in around 4.5 seconds.
When will the 2025 BMW 4 Series come to South Africa?
The vehicles are set to be launched globally in March and BMW South Africa confirmed the new arrivals will be touching in SA showrooms in the third quarter of 2024.
