Volkswagen was founded in the 1930s due to the increasing demand for more affordable cars. In those days, Germany’s automobile industry was still largely composed of luxury models – cars the average German could not afford to buy. In 1933, Adolf Hitler gave the green light for a state-sponsored program to produce Cars for the People, or Volkswagens (VW). A People’s Car had to be able to transport two adults and three children at 100 km/h. These cars eventually became available through a savings scheme at 990 Reichsmark, about the price of a small motorcycle. A lot has changed, and over time the Volkswagen Group has managed to shed its negative past. It has produced some of the most successful cars such as the VW beetle and South Africa's favourite, the Citi Golf, which has been one of the countries top selling cars for 25 years.
Cars.co.za has a wide array of second hand and used Volkswagens for sale, from the economic and ever popular Citi Golf, Citi Golf Chico and used Beetles, to the larger and more luxurious Passat, Polo and Jetta. Cars.co.za is also the place to shop for used and second hand vehicles of brands that are part of the Volkswagen Group, such as Audi, Bentley, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A, and SEAT. Our VW cars might be used and pre-owned, that does not mean they are of a lesser quality. Our dealer partners offer some of the best deals on used Volkswagen cars in South Africa.
