About Smart
The Smart Car project was started by Swatch, the Swiss watch manufacturer and is an acronym for Swatch Mercedes ART. The product was intentionally designed as a microcar (at 250cm in length) with the emphasis on ease of parking. The company was established in France in 1994 by Swatch and Daimler-Mercedes. Swatch has since pulled out of the partnership.
