Seat (Sociedad Espanola de Audomoviles de Tourismo) was founded in 1950 in Spain with initial assistance from Fiat. The first vehicles were in fact re-branded Fiat cars. By 1967 Seat was the largest automobile manufacturer in Spain. However in 1982 Seat’s relationship with Fiat came to an end and in 1986 the company was taken over by Volkswagen who became a majority shareholder.
