About Renault
Louis Renault founded the company in 1899 with the aid of his two brothers and two friends. The first car they designed and built was the Renault Voiturette 1CV which they sold to a family friend. Renault then began participating in motor racing and expanded their range to include taxis, busses and cargo vehicles. With the onset of the World War however Renault began producing military vehicles, ammunition and aircraft. After the War Renault expanded into agricultural and industrial machinery, as well as focusing their efforts into smaller more affordable cars. Once more war hit, and Renault factories began producing Lorries for the German occupiers. After the war Renault revolutionized the car industry by producing the world’s first hatchback car above subcompact size with its Renault 16. Currently Renault, with their alliance with Nissan, is the world’s forth largest automaker.
