About Kia
Kia Motors was founded in 1944 as the company Kyungsung Precision Industry producing steel-tubing and bicycles. The company later changed its name to Kia which roughly translates to “Arise out of Asia”. Kia then diversified and added production of motor-cycles, trucks and finally cars. Kia partnered with Ford in 1986 to produce a number of Mazda derived cars for various countries around the world. However during the Asian financial crisis in 1997 Kia filed for bankruptcy and Hyundai Motor Company bought 51% of Kia. Kia is currently South Korea’s second largest automobile production company.
