About Cadillac

A division of Ford got liquidated and instead of selling the assets they formed the Cadillac Automobile Company in 1902. The name is taken from the French explorer who founded Detroit; Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac. Cadillac developed the electrical system to enable starting ignition and lighting as well as being the first company to develop a fully enclosed cab at volume. Cadillac was purchased by General Motors in 1909 and became more involved in producing large luxury vehicles. Cadillac continued to produce vehicles for many years and pioneered many automobile accessories.
