The new and improved BMW X3

The new and improved BMW X3
BMW have finally released details on their 2011 X3 SAV. While the 2011 X3 does obviously look very similar to the current model, it has been made longer as well as wider and taller. These changes do seem rather odd though, as the far more common trend see's next generation vehicles becoming more compact. With these changes the 2011 X3 does run the risk of becoming too similar to the X5.

At launch the 2011 BMW X3 will be available in 2 different engine options: The xDrive 20d 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 135kW (184bhp). This engine completes 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 210km/h. The other option is the xDrive 35i 6-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 225kW (306bhp). With a 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 245km/h. It's likely that there will be more engine options available post-launch.

The 2011 BMW X3 will feature an automatic start-stop system in conjunction with a 6-cylinder engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This is a first for an X3 model and all these features combine to improve fuel economy.

Other new standard features include: xDrive 4-wheel drive technology, improved suspension technology and electric power steering.

Other optional features include: Performance control, variable sports steering, damper control and dynamic drive control.

The 2011 BMW X3 should hit dealerships over-seas near the end of 2010.
