GWM have come to the party as a real contender in the affordable double-cab bakkie market in South Africa with the new Steed 5 .GWM have made no secret of the fact that their Steed 5 is aimed at being an affordable alternative to many of the other double cab offerings in the country. As for what’s changed, the previous Steed 2.8 TDI diesel engine has been replaced by a 2.5 TCI diesel. Also the front grille has been updated but the main sporty and tough appearance has been retained from the current version. Under the hood the Steed 2.5 TCI diesel produces a maximum output of 80kW at 3400 rpm while the 2.4 4G69 petrol variant produces 100kW at 5200 rpm. Even with the affordable price, GWM have not skimped on safety features in the new Steed 5. It comes with ABS, EBD, dual airbags and front fog lamps. To add to the already impressive value, the Steed 5 comes with a 3-year / 100 000km warranty, along with a 2 year 24-hour roadside assistance service package. Now onto the price, the Steed 5’s biggest selling point. The GWM Steed 5 Double Cab Petrol 2.4 4G69 4x2 Luxury edition retails for R184 990 with the 4x4 Luxury edition going for R199 990. The Diesel 2.5 TCI 4x2 Luxury edition goes for R199 990 while the 2.5 TCI with the 4x4 Luxury edition going for R217 990. These prices include VAT and the CO2 tax. Overall it seems like GWM have created a good all round bakkie that give double-cab customers a solid vehicle at an affordable price. |
